Tawera
WINNER: NZ Radio Awards 2009, Best Maori Language Broadcast
Tawera is a daily one-hour, early morning current affairs programme totally in Te Reo Māori.
It captures the major news-makers of the day with six live interviews during the programme. Julian Wilcox regularly hosts Tawera with an emphasis on providing a Māori perspective on national and global issues from Te Ao Māori while maintaining a contemporary Maori world view.
Tawera is funded by Te Māngai Pāho and is broadcast to the Māori radio network.
Tawera has been a finalist in the Māori Media Awards and a finalist in the Māori Language category of the RNZ Awards, ultimately winning the Māori Media Award for Best Programme and Best Presenter 2008.

Today on Tawera, Rahui Papa talks about the Kingitanga Day, Michael Noera discusses the suicide hui, Parekura Horomia and Watson Ohia speak about the education budget, Parekura Kupenga talks about caregivers of the disable and Julian Wilcox discusses the Warriors.
Monday – Friday (inclusive) from 6am and repeated daily from midday.
About Julian Wilcox
Julian Wilcox (Ngapuhi, Te Arawa and Ngati Tuwharetoa) has been the host for Tawera since 2003. He currently hosts Māori Television’s current affairs show Native Affairs and is a former lecturer at the Media Studies Department at AUT.
Julian has extensive experience in radio and television broadcasting including announcing on Te Reo Irirangi o Te Upoko o Te Ika, editor of Māori language magazine Toi Te Kupu and as a reporter for Te Karere at TVNZ.
