Tess Chambers wins scholarship for prison work

A Massey University doctoral student has won the New Zealand Psychological Association’s Karahipi Tumuaki –President’s Scholarship for her research on the Waikeria Prison Maori Focus Unit.

 

Tess Chalmers is looking at how effective the unit is in changing the attitudes of inmates.

 

Society president Frank O’Connor says the research will enable improvements to the service and appropriate distribution of funds.

 

The scholarship is for Maori postgraduate students who are active in the Maori community and doing research that is Maori-centred and related to the betterment of the Maori community.
