Mana faithful blamed for billboard attacks

Friday 4th November, 2011

Labour's Kelvin Davis says the bad example set by Mana Party leader Hone Harawira is inspiring his followers to trash opponents' campaign signs.

Mr Davis says his billboards and those of Maori Party candidate Waihoroi Shortland have been repeatedly vandalised, especially around the mid and far north.

“People up north are saying ‘we know who’s doing this to your billboards, it’s Mana Party people, but if we come out about it we will be bullied and intimidated and harassed.’ Is this what Maoridom’s about now – if someone disagrees with you, you just bully and intimidate? It’s the antithesis of what I stand for and what I believe Maori are and the way we should behave,” Mr Davis says.

He's also had people asking for advice on early voting, because they don't want to be harassed on polling day.
