MP seeking more staff

Wednesday, 23rd November, 2011

Maori Party MP Rahui Katene says there is a strong case for Maori electorates to be given more parliamentary resourcing than general seats.

The latest polling shows Mrs Katene looks set to head off a challenge in Te Tai Tonga from Labour's Rino Tirikatene.

She says having completed a term, she better understands what is required to not only complete her duties in the House but service an electorate that includes more than half the country's land and seven cities, all with different issues.

Mrs Katene says she could use at least three electorate staff.
